Arthropod Research Report Outline

You will research and write a report about Arthropods. Arthropods are a large group of animals that are divided into 5 major classes.

Arthropods

Insects Arachnids Crustaceans Centipedes Millipedes

Science classes will be using the media center and computer facilities for sources of research in this report. We will create notes, bibliographic references, look at websites and, finally, make your report.

The minimum writing requirement for this work is as follows:

1. Introductory paragraph- "Tell me what you are going to tell me".

includes your topic sentence.
describe the characteristics that all Arthropods share.
describe the different classes of Arthropods.

2. Body of report- you will write six body paragraphs. Each paragraph must contain at least 4 sentences.

Body paragraph 1

Insects

describe the characteristics that insects have specifically.
Give examples insects (flies, mosquitoes)
describe some of the places that insects can be found.

Body paragraph 2

Arachnids

describe the characteristics that arachnids have specifically.
Give examples arachnids (ticks,spiders,mites)
describe some of the places that arachnids can be found.

Body paragraph 3

Crustaceans

describe the characteristics that crustaceans have specifically.
Give examples crustaceans (lobsters, crabs, crayfish)
describe some of the places that crustaceans can be found.

Body paragraph 4

Centipedes and Millipedes

describe the characteristics that centipedes and millipedes have specifically.
describe some of the places that they can be found.

Body paragraph 5

What negative effects do Arthropods have on humans and human activities?

Describe some of he ways that Arthropods are bad for humans.

Body paragraph 6

What positive effects do Arthropods have on humans?

Describe some of the ways in which Arthropods are good for people.

3. Conclusion paragraph

review what you wrote about in your report.
"Tell me what you told me".
This must be at least 4 sentences long.

GRADING- You will be graded on the following rubric:

1) Introduction-

Clear topic sentence: 5 10 points
clearly written intro paragraph with at least 4 effective sentences: 5 10 15 points

2) Body

Clearly written paragraphs: 5 10 15 20 points
covers each of the 6 body topics: 5 10 15 20 points
at least 6 paragraphs written: 5 10 15 20 points

3) Conclusion

writing contains a conclusion with at least 4 sentences: 5 10 15 points

EXTRA CREDIT- make a poster drawing of the Arthropod of your choice OR make a collage containing one or more Arthropods. Possible points: 20
